PrattSIDE is a student organization that seeks the betterment of diverse communities through collaborative design efforts.

This year PrattSIDE received the Taconic Fellowship Grant from Pratt Center Community Development (PCCD) , in a partnership with Fulton Area Business Alliance (FAB.)

The PCCD launched the Taconic Fellowship Program that is awarded to students, faculty and staff. The Fellowship was made possible by a grant from the Taconic Foundation and provides financial awards in support of field work that advances the Pratt Center’s goals of sustainability and equity in community development and responds to the evolving needs of changing society.

The goals of the Fellowship are to expose more disciplines to community development work and to support Pratt Institute’s commitment to collaboration, inter-disciplinary projects, and service learning opportunities.

PrattSIDE used the Fall 2014 semester to research precedents and materials. Followed by initial conceptual design. During the Spring 2015 semester PrattSIDE pushed the initial conceptual designs from concepts to schematic and finally design development.

Currently PrattSIDE is finalizing the design, and producing drawings, models, and images for a Design Pin-up with critics from the Architects among the faculty and community representatives. Then to the individuals and families in the community before sending the construction drawings to New York’s Department of Transportation for approval. Following approval, PrattSIDE will pre-fabricate the structure to deploy the framework on site afterwards and allowing the community to engage and participate in the weaving of the canopy, making the project more than a shading device, but an event in the community.
